Driving Distance Between Philadelphia + New York City, NYC

The trip between the two megacities by car is a challenging one, because of the constant truck and commuter traffic along the Jersey Turnpike and I-95. Rush hour is to be avoided at all costs for this trip, if you have a choice.

On the left is our custom Google map of the route between New York City and Philadelphia Pennsylvania.
The distance between Philadelphia and NYC and the driving time is: 100 miles or 2 hours (in light traffic, under good conditions)
Philadelphia Pennsylvania is the fifth largest city in the United States, with a population of 1.5 million people. New York City is the largest city in the United States, with a population of 8.1 million people.
If you can schedule this part of your trip for the early morning hours after midnight, you might come out of the experience with a little more of your sanity intact.
The section of I-95 that passes through Philadelphia is very heavily traveled and traffic jams are a daily fact of life here. Not only is the sheer volume of traffic a problem here but it seems that this road is in constant need of repair which only makes traffic more unbearable.
If you prefer to leave the driving and the road rage to someone else, here are some alternatives:
Amtrak
Greyhound Bus Lines
NY-Philly Shuttle Bus Service
NJ Transit Trains
Septa Trains
