Round Valley Recreation Area - Picnicking, Boating, Fishing, Swimming and Camping
1220 Lebanon-Stanton Road
Lebanon, New Jersey 08833-3115
Telephone: 908-236-6355

The Round Valley Reservoir covers over 2,000 acres, is approximately 180 feet deep, and is the deepest lake in New Jersey. This New Jersey State Park attracts swimmers, boaters, fishermen, picnickers, campers, cross-country skiers and sledding enthusiasts and is easily accessible from Interstate 78 getting off at Exit 18 on Route 22. Round Valley is one of the few parks that offers wilderness camping. The campsites on the eastern side are accessible by hiking or boating only.

In terms of trails and hiking the park offers three marked trails at Round Valley: the Cushetunk Trail, the Pine Tree Trail and the Family Hiking - Biking Trail, all open year-round. The 9 mile Cushetunk Trail and the 3 mile lower service road are multi-use trails that pass through open and heavily wooded areas. The Cushetunk trail surface is rugged and more suitable for experienced hikers, mountain bikers, and horseback riders. The Pine Tree Trail and the Family Hiking and Biking Trail that wander through the woods are ideal for children, birdwatchers, and seniors.

For camping the Wilderness family campsites offer tent sites with fire rings, drinking water, pit toilets, access to campsites by boat, canoe, or backpacking for $12.00 per night. The park also offers group wilderness campsites to accommodate 7-25 people.

For fishing there are 19 species of fish, including largemouth and smallmouth bass. Rainbow and brown trout are stocked annually and lake trout are abundant. The Division of Fish and Wildlife manages the reservoir as a trophy lake. For hunting the park offers waterfowl hunting on a seasonal basis by boat only. For boating the park offers a public boat launch for sailboats, canoes, kayaks, motor boats and inflatable vessels.

For picnicking there are 3 picnic areas. 2 are located in shaded areas, and 1 is on a hill overlooking the park all with tables and grills, restrooms, and playgrounds.

Round Valley offers swimming from Memorial Day through Labor Day with lifeguards, changing areas, restrooms, showers, a first-aid station, a concession building, two playgrounds and volleyball nets on the beachfront. For scuba and skin diving Round Valley Reservoir is one of the best freshwater lakes in New Jersey because of the clear water and rich aquatic life.
