Newtown and Bucks County: Rich in Art and History
Newtown and Bucks County have a rich history in the arts. Newtown's most famous artist is Edward Hicks, the renowned folk artist who painted "The Peaceable Kingdom'. Hicks lived and worked in Newtown from 1811 to 1849. He maintained a studio in downtown Newtown behind his home.
Bucks County's art history is a rich one also. The New Hope School is one of the most important movements in American art, and the works of it's most prominent artists grace museums across the globe. Some of those artists are: Redfield, Folinsbee, Garber and Coppedge.
This rich artistic heritage is continued today in Newtown by The Bucks Gallery of Fine Art (see 1st photo to left), Allegheny Art Company (see 2nd photo to left), and other galleries listed in our 9 page shopping directory. In Bucks County, The Michener Museum in Doylestown features an excellent collection of important art from Bucks County and the region.
