Milford New Jersey is a tiny charming town in rural Hunterdon County on the Delaware River, just across the river from Upper Black Eddy and Bucks County Pennsylvania.

Milford began to be settled about 1750 when a grist mill was built here. When that mill burned in 1769, the community came to be known as Burnt Mills. For some time after that, the town was known as Lowreytown, named after Thomas Lowrey, who was also an important figure in the founding of Flemington and Frenchtown.

Milford today is home to a large commercial baking operation called The Baker, the Ship Inn and The Oyster House, along with a small group of retail shops that sell everything from antiques to flowers to pet supplies.

Chestnut Hill on the Delaware Bed and Breakfast is the village's only lodging.

Milford has a population of 1,195, and is 1.2 square miles in size.

The Baker

The Baker is located in the center of Milford New Jersey and the smell of that fresh baked bread is one of the distinguishing characteristics of this small charming town on the Delaware River. The Baker is a factory for wholesome breads, muffins and pastries, but it is also a coffee and pastry shop that sells it's fresh baked breakfast treats and desserts to the public. You can have your treats to go, or you can sit at one of their bistro tables inside or outside the shop along Bridge Street. The Baker is open every day beginning at 6:00 AM for you early risers.

Milford Oyster House

The Milford Oyster House is a Milford New Jersey institution. The seafood restaurant has recently moved to a bigger and better location that has allowed them to expand. The new restaurant has an in-house bar with great bartenders, and an expanded menu with great appetizers and some of the best fish and chips in the Bucks and Hunterdon County region.
