A city of such style has to have great shopping and Savannah has much to offer from tiny quirky boutiques like the one in the photo, to quaint little book stores and antique shops hidden away in the historic district, to the large stores along Broughton Street, to Oglethorpe Mall on the Southside.

When we visit Savannah every year in January the entire city seems to be on sale. For Yankees like us seeking bargains, it is a great time to visit.

These photos were taken in January of 2006 on our trip to Savannah Georgia using a Nikon Coolpix 4300. This grouping features scenes from trendy clothing boutiques, galleries, furniture stores, home decor and gift shops.

In our small feature photo above and the larger one at the bottom of the page is shown a collection of modern home decor items in the window at 24 E on Broughton Street in downtown Savannah. Items include a deco inspired round mirror, a chrome coffee table, a modern leather couch, bold graphic pillows, modern vases and a tall black cabinet.

In the first photo on the left is shown a modern oil painting of a coastal landscape at Chroma Gallery on Barnard Street where it intersects Congress Street. The brilliance of these works at Chroma cast their light onto the streets of the night landscape of Savannah near the popular restaurants and nightclubs of downtown.

The second photo on the left shows a trendy clothing boutique downtown with an interesting stencil pattern on the windows and rose garlands surrounding the edges of the window on the exterior of the store.

The third photo on the left shows the upstairs furniture showroom of 24 E on Broughton Street. This is one of our favorite shops in all of Savannah. The owner has incredible taste and a great eye for design. This store always has great leather furniture at very good prices. This year our favorite new items included colorful lucite chandeliers and mirrored disco draperies/room dividers.

The forth photo on the left is once again from 24 E. It shows the contemporary bedroom and dining room furniture that the store is known for.

The fifth photograph on the left shows a leather dining room set from Savannah's best modern and contemporary furniture store.

The sixth photo on the left shows The Paris Market at Broughton and Bull Streets. They carry an eclectic range of merchandise in a gigantic two story building. Mixed in with small scented soaps and glass vases, there are oversized salvaged architectural items from Europe, crystal chandeliers, decorative pillows and fine scented candles.

The seventh photo on the left shows a customer browsing through Paris Market's wide selection of merchandise. In the background, antique cathedral lights hang from the ceiling above an antique bar that must have been salvaged from some old department store.

The eighth photo on the left shows shoppers taking a stroll down Broughton Street on a warm, sunny, January day in the background. Paris Market does an incredible job with their windows and their displays. In this window they featured some oriental fans and a crystal chandelier at the top of the window, with orchids in glass vases, fine soaps in antique wire baskets, an arrangement of curly willow branches, a silver magnifying glasses, miniature silver bud vases, skin care creams and lotions and a marvelous silk decorator pillow.

The ninth photo on the left shows a detail of this same display window described above. The mosaic vases glistened in the afternoon sun next to a vintage painted French sidetable and old glass insulators.

The tenth photo on the left shows another still life of crystal candelabras, white embossed china, and wall sconces in the window of Paris Market. When we were there this past January, they had an incredible sale going on. All of their marvelous Christmas items were priced at incredible values and we could have filled our van with treasures that we could not find anywhere else.

Our Favorite Shopping Destinations: Best Shopping in Savannah

E. Shaver Books on Bull Street is great for books by local authors and books on local history. (these make for dignified and meaningful souvenirs) These ladies that run the shop have a great sense of humor, a lot of local knowledge and a great taste in books. They also have a bargain book table and the store is located in an old home with rooms that seem to never end. It is a great place to go and browse for hours and just relax. They are very laid back at Shaver. The rare antique maps here magnificent also.

C. H. Brown Antiques on Broughton Street is great for fine silverplate serving pieces, an eclectic mix of antiques from all over the world and from various time periods. He also carries some architectural items. Charlie is a very helpful and welcoming person. He might just have a beautiful orchid for you to purchase too.

@ Home Vintage General is our choice for incredibly charming and unique gifts and home decor items on Broughton Street. It is located in the middle of downtown in a very large new store. We liked this store, and it's owner so much that we had to devote an entire page to it: Savannah's Best Store: One Funky Place. The owner is always discovering marvelous new items (many times she is ahead of the curve in terms of trends and new product offerings) and sharing them with her customers. She and her staff are some of the friendliest folks in all of Savannah.

SCAD art supply store on MLK is a fine source for journals, sketchbooks, pens, pencils and just about anything you might need to express yourself visually. The store has a coffee bar inside, is located on two floors, and is a great place to go and get ideas about what materials you might want to experiment with on your next art project.

La Paperie on Whitaker is a good place to stop in for fine stationery, journals, humorous modern greeting cards, and fine gifts. We found the owner to be extremely hospitable and warm. His new group of campy greeting cards based on Polaroid photos from the 1960's were irresistible.

Barnes and Noble in Oglethorpe Mall for an incredible selection of books, some you may not find anywhere else. We found some new editions of Dover art books that we had never seen before and have not been able to find since we got back home.

Oglethorpe Mall for it's wide variety of stores, large and small including: Macy's, J. C. Penny, Sears, Belk, Claire's Boutique, Dollar Tree, Express, Friedman's Jewelers, Helzberg Diamonds, Oglethorpe Shoe Repair, Radio Shack, Savannah Sweets, Stein Mart, Victoria's Secret, Yankee Candle and Zales Jewelers.

Chroma Art Gallery on Barnard is the spot for our favorite paintings in the entire city. It is owned and operated by two talented and ambitious woman artists. They not only do great artwork, but their marketing is outstanding. We now get monthly email newsletters that are about the most sophisticated newsletters that we receive from any company or corporation.
