Savannah Georgia is a city that respects art, architecture and history and it shows in how the city supports it's numerous museums.

Savannah lists an impressive number of museums: The Telfair Museum of Art, The brand new Jepson Center For the Arts, The Savannah History Museum, The Owens Thomas House Museum, The Mercer-Williams House, The Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace and The Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum.

The Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace or museum commemorates the founder of the Girlscouts in America. The museum has been in operation since 1956 and has welcomed thousands of scouts from all over the United States.

Shown in our small feature photo above and in the larger version at the bottom of the page is a historical figure that stands guard outside The Telfair Museum of Art on Barnard Street. The museum opened as the Telfair Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1886. The museum also operates the Owens-Thomas House and the Jepson Center for the Arts.

These photos were taken in January of 2006 and 2007 on our trips to Savannah Georgia using a Nikon Coolpix 4300, and a Canon Rebel XT. This grouping features the Telfair Museum of Art.

The second photo to the left shows a view of the front entrance of the Telfair Museum.

The third photo shows the carved inscription that graces the front facade.

The forth photo shows another one of the historical figures that guards the front of the museum.

The Telfair Museum of Art, formerly known as the Telfair Academy of Arts and Sciences, is home to more than 4,500 objects in it's permanent collection. These items include: works on paper, paintings, photography, sculpture, and decorative arts from all over the world. The museum is also the temporary home to the famous Bird Girl Sculpture by Sylvia Shaw from the book jacket of "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil".
