This grand old Southern mansion is located in the historic district in Savannah on Oglethorpe Street. I have always been fascinated by old structures like this that show their age. They speak to me of their potential (to be grand again), and of the people that once walked there.
A great way to begin your visit to Savannah is to take one of the tours. They will give you an invaluable oversight of the entire city. You'll catch glimpses of places you'll want come back to investigate furtner. Savannah is full of architectural treasures. It shows it's best side to you when you're walking.
These photos were taken in January of 2005 on our trip to Savannah. When we took this shot, the building was for sale. It may have been sold and restored by now. We can only hope that some of the orginal character and grace of this building was preserved. Update: We just found a reference online that the building has been sold, and a photo on another site of this 12 West Oglethorpe property with a reference to the rumor that it is haunted.
