Roaming the city streets at night, you can't help but be drawn in by sights like the one above, at an art gallery downtown near Congress street, (the restaurant and nightclub row of the historic district).
In a place of such beauty, it is only natural that artists would be drawn there. The two owners of Chroma Art Gallery on Barnard Street are no exception. Jan Clayton Pagratis and Lori Keith Robinson do paintings inspired by the lowcountry landscape of coastal Georgia and South Carolina.
If representational art is not your style, don't worry. The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) has exhibition spaces all over town. The range of styles in those shows, is diverse and constantly changing. Other exhibitions are staged at the Jepson Center and the Telfair Museum.
These photos were taken in January of 2006 on our trip to Savannah Georgia. This grouping features our favorite art gallery in the city, Chroma Gallery in the historic district, and pictures from the Jepson Center For The Arts.
In our small featured photo above and in it's larger version at the bottom of the page is shown a bright and colorful abstract landscape that is reminiscent of Cezanne's Italian landscapes.
In the first photo to the left is shown our favorite painting from the gallery, which is a collaborative piece by the two owners of the gallery, Jan Clayton Pagratis and Lori Keith Robinson.
The second photo to the left features a detail of the striking modern architecture of The Jepson Center For The Arts on York Street, next door to the Telfair Museum of Art. The Jepson is part of the Telfair and features modern and contemporary art. The center is a cutting edge 64,000 square foot giant of a building designed by architect Moshe Safdie. In this photo we feature the unusual glass ceilings located in the lobby of the space that make the museum extremely bright and welcoming.
The forth photo to the left shows the grand staircase that leads to the museums exhibition galleries located on the second floor. Along the sides of this remarkable staircase, the patrons of the museum are honored with engraved stone plaques.
The fifth photo to the left shows the front entrance to the museum with a gigantic fabric art mobile hanging in the lobby.
