Mammoth Cave National Park

This was a fun place to tour the cave. It is a pretty amazing large cave, although it does not have much in the way of cave formations like stalactites and stalagmites like some wetter caves have. We did a four hour tour including having lunch in the Snowball room and it was amazing. Camping in the campground was nice with the deer sightings. The one thing I did not like, though, was the visitor center is very small and with the amount of people visiting it ended up very crowded.

Is living in the campground required, or are there motels and hotels within a reasonable distance?

I don't mind outdoor tours, but I refuse to sleep in a tent.

There are some cabins near the campground. Also, there are hotels in Cave City, which is the Interstate exit for the park and only about a 15 minute drive to the Visitor Center were tours of the cave leave from.
