Town Council Elections Borough Council

I know I said I would stay out of politics and religion, but there is no forum online really for Frenchtown New Jersey politics, so here it is guys and gals.

I understand that Frenchtown will have it's first contested election in years for Common Council. There will be 4 people running for 2 seats. One of those candidates is my neighbor Sargent Russell. I do not know the other three candidates. Do you? Has anyone ever asked anyone why they were running for council in Frenchtown? Do you ever remember interviews in the Delaware Valley News? Has there ever been a public forum where candidates debated what was best for our little town?


My questions for each candidate are:

1. What do you like about Frenchtown?
2. Why are you running for Council?
3. What do you think needs to be done in Frenchtown and how will you attempt to make that change if elected?

Yes, I will answer my own posts because in Frenchtown it seems that I am the only one who cares about this place or has an opinion. If you do, well then, let us know it.

Update, Saturday Morning, June 7, 2008:

According to the Del Val News [Delaware Valley News] these were the results of the town council elections:

Sargent Russel was unopposed as the Republican nominee for a 3 year term on the Borough Council. He received 59 votes.

Republican Brad Myre received 31 votes in a write in campaign.

Byran Davison received 7 write in votes in the Democratic primary.

Michael Gilheany received 4 write in votes in the Democratic primary.

If Myre, Davison and Gilheany all decide to accept their nominations, there will be 4 candidates campaigning for 2 seats on the council. This will be the first contested election in many years according to Frenchtown Town Clerk, Brenda Shepherd.
