Default Salmon

Salmon is something my mom use to make out of the can, but she only made patties out of it. Does anyone know others ways to make a good meal out of it.

Salmon is great when grilled. You can wrap it in aluminum foil with veggies and it usually comes out nice and juicy.

Ken,

My mom used to make the same dish. We called them salmon croquettes. It was one of the only seafood dishes that we had at home on a regular basis. There are thousands of things that you can do with salmon, but what type of salmon are you talking about? There are many different types: canned salmon, whole fresh Atlantic Salmon, sides of salmon, frozen salmon, smoked salmon and more.

One of my favorite salmon dishes is a smoked salmon pate that a chef friend of mine makes. It is yummy!

Canned salmon is usually cheap and made with a lot of salt. I find that I can't help but buy it when I see it on sale.

If you only know about canned salmon, you can make patties out of it, but you can also make salads with it. Just add lots of veggies and mix it up and top it with mayonnaise or some tomato sauce. It makes a filling salad.

You can also drain it from the salty liquid in the can and try shaping it into long patties and heat them up, just a few minutes, add a bit of butter or tomato sauce and serve as you would any fish.

You can also drain it and add large pieces to slices of bread for a good fish sandwich, loading the bread with lettuces to keep the fish from falling out. You can use wraps and add the drained salmon to veggies there too.

You can also drain and add it as you would chicken or meat pieces in stir fry or baked dishes. Only remember that the fish is already broken up and so you can't hope to get it in large pieces. Make sure that the recipe calls for the fish to be in pieces.

If you only know salmon from a can, I'd also recommend that you try some salmon from the fish department. When it is fresh it has a lovely flavor and you can do a lot more with it. It is more expensive, but fresh salmon is wonderful. Really! Try it.
