See Star and everyone..What one considers strange another
will not..(some folks might think it strange that I can eat grits
with a bit a' salt and lots of real butter like a dessert)!
MOST cereal with fruit, to me IS a dessert

OK..things that are strange to me:
(please understand that I DO understand that these are very
respected delicacies in some cultures, and I do not wish to be unkind,
or disrespectful of the traditions of others).

Chicken feet

Tongues of 'things'

Tripe..(ughhh)

Chitterlings (yes I AM Southern, but that is just nauseating to me)

MOST foods that I would call-- innards. (NOT that hungry, sorry)

Anything made from 'brains'

Eyes of any type..do not like to eat fish that are cooked with eyes!

Oh no! You mentioned cow tongue and chicken feet as the strangest foods that you've seen and it takes me back to my childhood right away.

All the kosher butchers in my neighborhood used to have whole chickens in the windows -- feet and all. My mother never was one to buy feet, but my grandmother used to get them in to make the best chicken broth, Jewish penicillin, around.

Only once did my house see chicken feet and I was the unfortunate person to unwrap the chicken from the brown paper wrapper (See how long ago this was?) to find two awful chicken feet staring me in the face. I screamed. Till this day I am still freaked out by bird feet. Can't look at them, can't let the touch me!

And cow tongue! I almost forgot how delicious cow tongue is. Mother used to make it quite a lot. There's nothing as yummy as a tongue sandwich, on rye, with mustard. OK, now I have a yen for tongue again.

Strange as it seems, I never ever made the connection with the food --tongue-- and where it came from and that it was really a cow's tongue.

It really is delicious and easy to cook, as I recall. Now I have to find a butcher that sells it. I am forgetting all my healthy eating habits and reverting to my childhood where good food was whatever was on the table.

Where can I buy a good tongue?

Hi Skatts..I bet it (tongue) is prolly delicious..and IF I did NOT
have to see it (and chicken 'feets') in its raw natural state every-
day,,.,I (MIGHT) try it. I have a very good job in a major retail

and food chain..(no names please).
I do somewhat favor Kosher foods and have a hard time thinking
THOSE food would be Kosher..One think I always perceived (either
correct or incorrect?) was, (from the bible-Old Testament, and other
study)that a lot of the Kosher idea is a belief in extreme cleanliness.
(and the avoidance of possible cross-contamination).
Knowing chickens (for example) I have a hard time NOT thinking of
where those 'feets' have walked their entire life..(sorry now I am being
nauseating). How would one get those little claws clean enough prior
to cooking? Yuck. I do think The beef tongue MIGHT be 'tryable' for
me, IF I did not have to see it raw..clean, and cook it..How DOES one
cook it?
OK I admit I am a bit strange about food. Also very Southern AND a
bit over-weight. (like MOST of America). Some of my views, I have to
keep to myself in the cooking boards that I participate and contribute
excellent (Southern and Americana) type recipes to.)
I do NOT eat large portions of meat. Eat small potions of RED meat and
still have elevated cholesterol.(which IMHO) is another reason (for me)
to avoid organ meats of all types.
I adore shell fish, but most of my Kosher friends with the physical
problem that I have avoid shell-fish..(it also is NOT Kosher). We are
talking lobster, shrimp, clams..YUMS! I am having a great deal of
problem NOT allowing myself HUGE quantities of these foods.. I adore
them! My primary problem (Crohn's disease) is VERY prevalent in the
Jewish community.
When I was growing up, we were rather poor and were happy to eat
whatever was put in front of us. That is the way it should be as well,
IMHO.

That is just too funny. I enjoy going through the odd foods and seeing what they have. If you really want an adventure go to an authentic Asian market. You will see things in there that you can't believe people actually eat.

Usually if I see a strange food I just try and stay away as I will probably screw it up cooking it anyways.

I haven't seen tongue in years and had totally forgotten about it. I think the only time I had it was when I was very young.
