Has anyone out there ever used White Asparagus? It's grown in a way that it's deprived of light and therefore never develop its green color. I've heard it has a milder taste and is more tender than green asparagus.
Asparagus is my favorite vegetable and I'm wondering if the "milder" taste wouldn't taste as good to me. I'd love to hear if anyone here has cooked with it, and if so what differences they've found.
It does taste good, though I do prefer the green asparagus. It certainly is much more tender.
Have you tries the white salad asparagus? They sell it here in jars, it is much smaller and extremely tender, you dont need to cook it, just drain and serve it.
I'm not a huge fan of asparagus, so I havent tried the white variety. I do know that it has picked up in popularity in Spain, where it is eaten a lot as an appetizer or as tapas, so there has to be something good about it to make people switch.
I adore asparagus of all colors and have tried the white kind and even the purple. It is rather mild and for the price, I'd rather have the full green type with the full flavor.
alike many others out here in this forum, i've also never tasted the white asparagus. however, i love to take usual asparagus when it is cooked by my mom, but hate the same one when i enter the kitchen for preparing it.
