Default White Asparagus

Has anyone out there ever used White Asparagus? It's grown in a way that it's deprived of light and therefore never develop its green color. I've heard it has a milder taste and is more tender than green asparagus.

Asparagus is my favorite vegetable and I'm wondering if the "milder" taste wouldn't taste as good to me. I'd love to hear if anyone here has cooked with it, and if so what differences they've found.

It does taste good, though I do prefer the green asparagus. It certainly is much more tender.

Have you tries the white salad asparagus? They sell it here in jars, it is much smaller and extremely tender, you dont need to cook it, just drain and serve it.

The only way is to try it for yourself.

I'm not a huge fan of asparagus, so I havent tried the white variety. I do know that it has picked up in popularity in Spain, where it is eaten a lot as an appetizer or as tapas, so there has to be something good about it to make people switch.

I have seen white asparagus but never purchased it. I always felt that, due to the way it is grown, it probably lacked some vital nutrients.

I could be wrong though.

Actually, I love regular asparagus!

I like asparagus, but I've never tried the white kind.

I think if I do see it in the store, it's probably in the pickled form in a jar.

I had never heard of this before, so I looked it up. Apparently it's called spargel in Germany, where it's popular.

Boy, now I'm really curious to try it. I love normal asparagus!

I adore asparagus of all colors and have tried the white kind and even the purple. It is rather mild and for the price, I'd rather have the full green type with the full flavor.

I love asparagus I am not sure I would like it in a milder form though. To me the luscious green hits the spot.
