I used to work for Reserve America which deals with the state & government parks in California. It was great, I didn't realize that there were so many state parks in California. Some of my favorites are Refugio State Beach, the bike trail connects to the beach. Carpinteria State Beach, Sea lions can be seen here December through May as the Grey Whale occasionally. There are a lot of others campsites that I like going to during the year to camp. The fees depend on if you go during in-season or off-season. If you want to go camping locally then state and government parks are the way to go.
