We've stayed in condos in the Clearwater area of Florida about 12 years ago, and we loved it.
There were restaurants and various stores within walking distance, and a great beach just off the property. And you could take a drive and easily find a worthwhile place for lunch or shopping.
I wonder if this area has changed much in the last decade?
I have considered this area many times for trips but I have never found any good bed and breakfast inns or neat hotels. A lot of the hotels looked really cheap. Does anybody have any suggestions?
Oh we stayed in Clearwater Beach on our honeymoon but that was longer ago than your visit, almost 13 years.
I loved the beaches and there were so many things to do.
We spent a lot of time in St Petersburg, they had a science museum too.
I'd like to go back!

We vacationed in Clearwater about 10 years ago ....we rented a duplex type cottage that sat right on the beach. It was so nice to wake up in the morning and have coffee on the porch with a view of the ocean. The cottage wasn't first class by any means, but the view was worth it all....
Oh Faith..(WELCOME BTW!) what you describe is EXACTLY the type beach experience I long for ..As long as it it was fairly clean, had lots of good clean water/sheets & etc. Close access to great food, (or a great cooking area) That sounds like heaven to me! I am going to do some searches for Clearwater beaches..and NO..... no hotel/motels (if possible)!
Does anyone have names of great (undiscovered..hummm) quiet old beaches, where no one likes to go..anywhere U.S.? Yes I am a brave one!
I can remember when folk used to CAMP right on the beach..Bet that is against the law now! (and YES, I am old)!

Hi LanasCountry! Thanks for the welcome! There's a remote beach area on South Padre Island in Texas. It's like ten miles of beach on ither side of the island.
I'm not sure about hotel/motel or condo accomodations as we were only site seeing, but the beach was so quiet and peaceful and hardly no one was on it! Now this was about eight or so years ago, so it may have changed....
St. Petersburg! Woo Hoo! It is my hometown. There are a lot of things to do and places to visit in this area. St. Petersburg and Clearwater are characterized by its fine beaches and resort areas, historic landmarks and fine restaurants. And if you like big cities, you can visit Tampa which is a half hour away (driving time).
