The Great College Campus Road Trip

My younger sister, who I take care of, has started college shopping and I promised her that when she narrowed down her list I would take her to visit each potential college. I think it is very important for her to see every school and get a feel for the location, the student body and the classroom environment etc. I didn't do this myself because I pretty much did the entire college thing on my own and made my decision while I was still living in Madrid.

With plane tickets going up so much and since we are in a central location I have decided to try and road trip as much of these visits as I can, gas for the car is still cheaper than two tickets and a rental car. Since I will already be doing some traveling this summer we are going to try and fit in visits that are nearby. Heading to Dallas in a week for a wedding and there is a school in the city she wants to check out so that works perfectly.

Anyone done this before though? Have any advice? We plan on doing the bulk of the trips in the beginning of the fall, so that she can see the school during the school year, but some will take place this summer.

I think that is a marvelous thing that you are doing for your sister. We should all be as lucky as her to have a great sister like you willing to guide us through choosing a college.

Can you tell us where you guys will be traveling to? If so, maybe we all can give you some insights about great places to go and horrible places to avoid and maybe even some advice about different colleges if you like.

I did a college trip as well - it was one of the best times of my life!!
I did my trip in Europe with the train and that is really to recommend. It is not just money safing but u experience so much when going by train - you meet so many other students - just awesome!
