Default Archaeology Vacations

If I ever get the chance, I want to go on an archaeological vacation. These would be great for kids, especially those being home schooled, to give them a realistic look at how information about earth's past is gathered.

Try looking at The Archaeological Conservancy when you have the chance!

We've been looking for an opportunity like this for a while.
I can't do a vacation but I'm hoping that we can find a site that is being excavated
within a 2-3 hour drive that would let us come and actually help as well as learn
how they do it.
I can't imagine it not being great hands on learning fun!

A few years ago I went on a college student trip to China. The focus was archeology and we got to participate in a dig in the area of an emperor's tomb one day. It was a really cool experience. I also remember doing a dig in grade school in the back area of the school yard. That dig was not meant to find anything real, however, we were taught the basic idea of how to carry out a dig.

That would just be amazing and what an adventure... I have wanted to do something like that ever since I was a kid pretending to find stuff in the dirt.

Oh, I did this once here in IL. It was really hot and a long day spent whacking and moving dirt with a little brush but I really did have tons of fun. Now that I think of it, I have been wanting to go camping and this would be a great things to have the kids do.

Wow, this would be fun. I wonder if there's any sort of dinosaur archeology dig vacations? That would be a blast.

Diana,

Any type of vacation is a wonderful blessing, but one that would allow me to dig in the ground and discover treasures would be one that I would never forget. Thanks for making the post. I never knew these types of vacations were available!

The Native Peoples of Alabama trip sounds fascinating.

FT

Sounds exciting! I will suggest to my brother to take his kids in this summer.

Is summer is okay to go there? Or when is the best time to go there?

I bet each dig is different, do you probably have to look at the websites associated with them to see when they are allowing vacationers to join them!
