I could probably be comfortable in a glass bottomed boat, but I would have to be seriously medicated to walk on this modern marvel.

Would you be able to trip the light fantastic? Have you already been there?

I was trying to add in a video from MSNBC about the opening of the Grand Canyon Skywalk, but I couldn't get it to work on the forum yet. What I did find however was the official web site for the Skywalk (note, be sure and have your sound turned up before you click on this link to get the full effect. The opening flash animation is worth the whole trip over there. It is like a Hollywood movie production opening.

For some background information you might want to watch the MSNBC video and read more about the construction of the bridge here. The Skywalk evidently is quite a trip. It has a glass floor and sits 4,000 feet above the floor of the Grand Canyon. The proceeds from the bridge benefit the Hualapai Indian tribe reservation.

I live not even 2 hours from the Grand Canyon and I won't go there. They did not make this nearly as safe as they should have (for children)...But it is an absolutely beautiful view!

I wonder what it was like to build it! I imagine they had to have scaffolding below the walk to rivet it together. That had to be really dangerous.

It will probably be known as the 9th wonder of the world!

I am waiting to hear about the first base jumper to use this to launch himself, or herself, into the canyon below, and then the bill for getting them out of the canyon!

I would love to walk up there. I love such views. My favorite has been the Auckland Sky Tower in New Zealand. They have a section at the top of the tower with a glass bottom. It's pretty neat looking down and seeing the city from above between your feet!
