Ocean Grove was chosen as one of our Best New Jersey Getaway Destinations for three reasons; history, family and availability/affordability.
First of all, Ocean Grove has a rich history as a spiritual retreat; the town was formed over 130 years ago by a religious group that came every summer to this magical place to relax, recharge and refocus.
Secondly OG is a great place for family getaways; the calendar of events here is filled with family oriented festivals and fairs.
Finally, Ocean Grove has a large number of hotels and bed and breakfast inns to choose from. There are a total of 25 establishments here, some with as few as 5 rooms, others with as many as 40 rooms. The price range of these inns and guest houses is quite affordable. Some start at less than $70.00 per night in the slow season and other more luxurious suites can cost as much as $425.00 per night in the middle of the summer high season.
In terms of comparisons, Ocean Grove boasts “the largest assemblage of authentic Victorian architecture in the nation”, which makes it similar to Cape May in terms of the way that it feels. In terms of price, Ocean Grove is less expensive than Cape May. In terms of dining, Ocean Grove offers a wide range of casual dining options from the famous Windmill Hotdogs to Moonstruck Restaurant & Cocktail Lounge located down the street in neighboring Asbury Park.
