The Shot . Photography . Zen Moments . Inspiration
Sometimes when you go out with your camera, nothing seems to grab you or inspire you. Everything seems drab and then you look up or down or you turn a corner and something shifts inside you and you see wonderful things.
That is exactly what happened when we went out for our photo-hike the other day along the creek in Frenchtown. My friend had been busy snapping photos feverishly and running ahead to see wonderful new things. For me, I just couldn't get started, so instead of pushing myself or forcing myself to see things that weren't there for me, I decided to sit on a rock and listen to the water and just be quiet. I wasn't concentrating on finding a great shot or capturing the perfect moment of light and form, I was just sitting and BEING.
As I got up to walk down the creek a little further, I looked up and there IT was; my first shot. [be it ever so humble that's it shown above]
Note, the link I provide on this page is for an article on trees from NJ Skylands Magazine Online about some of the state's oldest and most famous trees. Our little creek here in Frenchtown has an amazing group of old sycamore trees like the ones shown in this photo. One of the largest ones is right on Kingwood Avenue as you come into town at Nishisakawick Creek.
