Best Restaurant in St. Augustine Florida: Gypsy Cab Company
When we arrived in St. Augustine, my sister would not tell us about her secret plans for our last night there, just that she was taking us to dinner. On our way there, she told about this place called Gypsy Cab and some of it's history. She guaranteed us that we would be happy with this place.
She was right. Cab was almost entirely filled that evening, and quite loud with everyone packed in so tight and enjoying themselves so much. The hummus platter that I ordered was the best one that I have ever seen, (and also the largest, with an entire two salads worth of greens, carrots and cucumbers surrounding a very tasty mound of hummus) Our entire party of 5 had to help me finish this vegetarian delight.
Every single dish presented at our table was superbly prepared with care and wonderfully spiced. Gypsy Cab is a Star of Wonderful Honest Classic Food that is creative, but not from another planet.

"As a native St. Augustinian I gotta say you got my hometown right on. My family's been going to Gypsy since it opened over 15 years ago. Next time you go, you have to get the bean and cheese burrito, it's to die for. And if you're downtown don't miss The Way We Were on Charlotte Street. The owner is super nice and she has the best selection of antique and vintage clothing. And she's always willing to cut you a deal. "

Best Alfresco Dining in St. Augustine: A1A Ale House
The A1A is one gigantic operation. It is housed in the former home of the wax museum near the Bridge of Lions. Our evening started off perfectly with two incredibly well made painfully extra dry Bombay Gin martinis, up, with a twist, shaken not stirred (what Val and I refer to as our Paragraph Martinis because it takes so long to state the name of the drink) The problem with these is that no one really will believe that you want your martini made that dry and just do it the way that they see fit, not the way you ordered it.
Dinner was a continuation of a marvelously creative, relaxed casual dinner. We ate that night outside on the porch overlooking the St. John's River and the Bridge of Lions all bedazzled in Christmas lights.
For this reason, we award The A1A Ale House: The Best Alfresco Dining in St. Augustine.
