St. Augustine . One of America's Most Beautiful Cities
Saint Augustine Florida is a city of incredible beauty and one of our choices for America's most beautiful cities. My personal history with this town goes back over 30 years.
St. Augustine is a city that I have been visiting since the late 70's when I lived in South Alabama. I now live much further away, and I have traveled many other places now, but Saint Augustine is still one of the most beautiful and well preserved towns that I have ever seen.
I had never been to this fair historic city around Christmas, and therefore had never seen how it dresses itself up for the holiday season. The center of town is ablaze with white lights as few cities ever do. This balloon draping thing they did with the trees was incredible. I spent hours trying to figure out how they did it. I do know they had to have a gigantic crane to do it.
Another photo of the Christmas Lights with more of a view of the street.

When I visited St. Augustine in January of 2005, it was incredibly and delightfully warm. In the photo above is shown a restaurant with an outdoor courtyard. The food that day was not particularly good and the service wasn't anything to brag about, but the weather made it feel like paradise.
On the final day of our trip I went back downtown to the historic district and was once again mesmerized by the gates and gigantic chains surrounding Flagler College. The photo above shows one of the street lights that are built into the fence with a backdrop of moss covered branches in silhouette.
