Carino's is a welcome addition to the dining scene along Route 202 near Bridgewater Commons. They serve Italian food with a unique Southwestern twist to it.
We stopped in Carino's for a quick bite to eat on a snowy day in February while were out shopping. The food was reasonably priced, beautifully prepared and delivered with a smile by the staff.
Our favorite dish was the "Sicilian Fire Sticks" which are made by taking a brilliant red tomato-basil tortilla and filling it with Italian sausage, chopped grilled chicken, roma tomatoes, jalapenos, and creamy Italian cheeses. It is then rolled and flash fried just enough to heat it up, melt the cheeses and a slight crispiness to the outside. They are served with ranch and marinara dipping sauces.
The smoked chicken and bacon panini was beautifully toasted and very tasty, but was a bit salty and dry. It also would have been much better with a little fresh baby spinach or basil.
The homemade lasagna was very good with a spicy Italian sausage and a hearty marinara sauce and fresh ricotta cheese.
Overall, we rate Carino's a 3 out of 5, which is an excellent rating for everyday chain restaurant food, for us at least.
