These red onions were grown in Orange County, NY in a farming area called the Black Dirt Region. The dirt/soil here is especially dark and rich because there was once a gigantic lake here thousands of years ago that became a swamp with tons of plant matter that built up in layers in the soil. As the swamp was drained by early settlers, this decayed plant matter from the swamp broke down to became part of this incredibly rich and rare soil; the black dirt that we see today, that produces these incredible vegetables on these beautiful farms.
Orange County, is located in souther New York and borders Passaic County and Sussex County in New Jersey, Pike County in Pennsylvania, Sullivan County, Ulster County, Dutchess County, Putnam County, Westchester County and Rockland County in New York.
