Il Pasticcio is located in a former department store on one of Savannah's busiest corners at Broughton and Bull Street. The atmosphere here is what the owner calls very metropolitan. That label fits, as the place is decorated in a black and white theme, with indirect lighting that leads to an overall contemporary look. Il Pasticcio is also a lounge that offers cocktails and live entertainment. Late at night, (after the kitchen closes), a portion of the dining room becomes "The Luna Lounge". It is a great place for a drink being on a busy corner with floor to ceiling windows, it makes for great people watching.
Il Pasticcio has won many awards since it opened in 1993. It rates very well in local reader's polls, USA Today calls it one of the top 10 Italian restaurants in the entire United States, Southern Living magazine has called the restaurant one of the South's best food finds." It has also received recognition for it's extensive wine list.
Some highlights from the soups, salad and appetizers menu include: Frittelle di Caprino (breaded goat cheese medallions, spinach, Italian prosciutto, raspberry vinaigrette), Italian antipasto, Rollatini di Zucchine con Funghi Porcini (roasted zucchini slices over porcini + portabella mushrooms), Cozze Arrostite (mussels, white wine, parsley, garlic, marinara sauce), Asparagi Gratinati (asparagus, rosemary ham, parmigiano reggiano, homemade mozzarella), Insalata Romana (Caesar salad, focaccia croutons), Insalata Pasticcio (arugula, endive, radicchio, artichokes, olives, feta cheese, house vinaigrette), Ravioli Ripieni D'Aragosta (homemade lobster ravioli, pink champagne cream sauce) and Carpaccio di Manzo (beef carpaccio, shaved parmesan, arugula).
Some of the items on the pasta menu include: Penne Pasticcio (sautéed penne pasta ,extra virgin olive oil, pesto sauce, fresh Roma tomato, parmigiano reggiano, homemade Brunoise mozzarella), Capellini con Scampi, Capesante, Funghi e Zafferano (angel hair pasta sautéed with scallops, shrimp, mushrooms, crushed red pepper, tomatoes, saffron sauce) and Risotto del Giorno (Risotto of the day).
Some of the menu entrees or second piatti include: Petti di Pollo Ripieni (chicken breast stuffed with asparagus, roasted peppers, Prosciutto Crudo, provolone, served with mashed potatoes + chutney), Veal Scaloppine of the day, Filetto di Manzo Gratinato (filet mignon with Gorgonzola crust, served with caramelized pearl onions, carrots, asparagus, potato + pancetta gratin, port wine reduction sauce), Trota Farcita (baked trout stuffed with fennel, caper relish, topped with lemon juice + butter, served with jasmine rice, sautéed spinach, purple cabbage) and Cernia alla Livornese (grouper, sautéed spinach, artichokes, cabbage, jasmine rice, topped with tomato cream sauce).
Il Pasticcio holds wine dinners periodically, has facilities to host private parties, corporate meetings and banquets, and the chef teaches Italian cooking classes. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner 7 days a week. Reservations are highly recommended.
