Garibaldi's is located on Congress Street directly across from the City Market in a grand old building that was once a fireman's social club for meetings, dances and banquets. This building features gigantic chandeliers and huge arched windows in the second floor dining room. The dramatic downstairs dining room features a luxurious high bar with a mirrored wall along the back, curved black leather booths, round tables, more huge chandeliers, Empire mirrors and dark gold walls.

The menu here features Crispy Flounder, the dish that they are famous for. This creation actually has it's origins in Charleston in the 1980's, when Chef Dan Kim created the dish based on how fish is prepared in Thailand. In this dish, the flounder is diamond scored on both sides and glazed with an apricot shallot sauce. From my own experience with this dish, it is superb, and one of my favorite entrees that I had in Savannah. The fish comes out flaky, moist and has a delightful fresh taste.

Other menu highlights include: poached pear salad (arugula, blue cheese fritter, toasted walnuts, pear + port vinaigrette), hearts of palm salad, shrimp risotto cake (sautéed shrimp with country ham and cream), seared beef tenderloin (with fingerling potato salad, candied red onions, whole grain mustard sauce), bloody Mary oysters (jalapeno, tomato, avocado, red onion, bloody Mary mix), shrimp cocktail, Garibaldi platter (lobster tail, six oysters, three shrimp), crispy duck, lobster rabini (egg washed lobster tails sautéed in sherry, with asparagus and fettuccini alfredo), veal chop au poivre (seared veal chop with a pepper coating, with a wild mushroom brandy sauce), osso buco, Maine lobster pasta (mussels and shrimp in lobster sauce, linguine) and a 12 ounce New York strip (caramelized onions, green beans, French fries with bordelaise).

Traditional Italian classics include: spaghetti and meatballs, 5 layer lasagna, veal parmigiana, chicken parmigiana, veal piccata and linguine primavera (artichoke hearts, tomatoes, Shitake mushrooms, goat cheese, garlic, olive oil).

Garibaldi's features a full features bar for beer, wine, champagne and cocktails. Their wine list is quite extensive, featuring selections from Napa Valley, Sonoma County, New Zealand, Chile, Germany, France, Italy, Canada and Australia. The restaurant has one of the grandest party rooms in the city in their upstairs ballroom that can handle parties up to 120 people. They specialize in private, corporate and business parties and meetings.

Garibaldi's is open 7 nights a week for dinner. Reservations are recommended. (Alternate listings, spellings, Garibaldi Restaurant, Garibaldies, Garibaldis, Garobaldi, Garibaldis Cafe)
