One of the highlights of our January 2005 trip through the South was finding this Vintage Shop in St. Augustine Florida. It's called The Final Groove or Lady Lux and it is located a short drive or walk from downtown St. Augustine on Anastasia Island across the Bridge of Lions. I have not seen such an incredible collection of vintage clothes since I left Chicago in 1995. This shop however carries a lot more than vintage clothes. It is filled with sublime retro/modern/funky/moderne furniture, art and home decor.
Lux/Groove is owned and operated by Dana Taylor pictured in the photo below on the left with a lucite halo. Our title for the picture is "Dana; Patron Saint of Vintage Style". Dana, the owner is one of the nicest antique dealers I have ever met. Antique dealers can be the crabbiest old s.o.b's in the world, but not Dana. She was smiling and polite while working her butt off the entire time we were there hunting down just the right outfit for a young girl and her father, and then for an elderly lady as we were leaving.
Pictured below on the right is my favorite item in the entire shop. It was an art table entitled: "Pucci, Gucci, Bucci". The table was made from part of a male underwear manikin and a glass table top with outrageously brightly painted decoration. The painted swirls and curls echo the curves and bulges of the male figure. Shown behind the table is a delightful modern stained glass window.
 
 
Shown above on the left is a 60's dress with matching couch on the side, a rack of furs (which are such survival necessities in Northern Florida), and a psychedelic butterfly painting in oranges and pinks.
Shown above on the right is another interior view of the shop with contemporary metal art constructions, prints and a great vintage carnival space ship ride hanging from the ceiling.
The couch in this first photo below has to be seen to be appreciated. It is a subtle and sophisticated modern design that incorporates the best of late 20th Century Style and Oriental simplicity.
In the second photo above a fuzzy velour couch is complimented here with animal print pillows, and modern paintings.
The Final Groove and Lady Lux do not have a website, but they can be reached at (904) 824-6520. For price, selection, style and spirit The Final Groove gets our vote for the Best Vintage Store in the entire Southern United States.
