Clary's was made famous internationally in the movie, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, but this humble little restaurant has been famous with locals for it's great food, friendly service and homey atmosphere for over a hundred years.

Our experience at Clary's (Southside/Habersham) was one of the best dining experiences that we had in Savannah. Our first meal we had here was breakfast, and it was simply delicious. The corned beef hash was the best we have ever tasted. You could tell that the restaurant makes their own corned beef, which makes all the difference in the world. Our second meal was lunch. We were on our way out of town and knew we better get some food before we got on the road. Once again, Clary's delivered. My partner had an incredible $6.95 reuben sandwich, with their famous corned beef, imported Swiss cheese, Russian dressing and sauerkraut on grilled caraway rye bread. I had an $8.95 shrimp basket that has to be one of the best value meals in the entire city, with a hardy portion of beautifully fried jumbo fantail shrimp, served with fresh French fries, homemade coleslaw and corn on the cob.

The original owners of this local institution sold the business a few years ago to their long time employee, Jan Wilson, but judging from the quality and value of our meals, she is only enhancing the fine heritage of this business. We did not have the chance to visit the downtown location, but from everything that we had read about it online, the Clary's Abercorn customers are just as happy as the Habersham customers. In terms of differences between the two, the downtown location is only open for breakfast and lunch, where the Habersham restaurant is open for dinner.

The breakfast menu here features items like: crab cakes Benedict, hoppel poppel (scrambled eggs with kosher salami, onions, green peppers and potatoes), country fried steak and eggs, blintzes, sourdough French toast, malted waffles, Georgia pecan pancakes, omelets and more. Both locations serve breakfast all day.

The lunch menu features items like: baskets with your choice of chicken, shrimp, scallops and oysters, specialty burgers, kosher hot dogs, classic deli sandwiches, homemade soups, salads, desserts, soda fountain specialties and more.

At the Habersham location for dinner you can choose items from their "Down Home Cooking Menu" like: homemade meatloaf, chicken pot pie, pot roast and fried chicken. Other dinner items include: New York strip, chicken parmagana, planked fish and rosemary chicken.

Clary's also has facilities for private and corporate parties and banquets. They are also caterers. (Alternate listings, spellings: Cleary's, Clarys, Claries, Clary's Cafe, Restaurant, Diner)
