Chesapeake City Maryland is a beautiful little town in northeastern Maryland on the Chesapeake & Delaware Canal. It is a place of incredible visual charm with its undersized 19th Century houses, a marina in the heart of downtown, and a group of charming old buildings all nestled near the waterfront.
In terms of the Bohemian name; no, that's not just a marketing ploy to lure and hook unsuspecting tourists. The town was named by Augustine Herrman, who named the town, his plantation and a nearby river after Bohemia, his country of origin.
Chesapeake City has a lot to offer for such a tiny place. There are three charming bed and breakfast inns in town and more in the surrounding area. There are four restaurants and cafes and a dozen or so quaint little shops that sell everything from photographs, to gifts and books.
Our favorite places here are; The Dragonfly Gift Shop for distinctive gifts, the Bayard House for great seafood dinners with a view of the canal and The Chesapeake Inn for cocktails. The surrounding countryside here is gorgeous, so just get in the car and explore.
