Red Mill Museum Village - Historic Western NJ River Village
56 Main Street
Clinton, NJ 08809
(908) 735-4101
Clinton's Red Mill was built about 1810 as a woolen mill and is one of the most photographed building in Hunterdon County. It sits next to a waterfall dam on the Raritan River in the center of historic Clinton NJ.
The Mill is much more than that big red building however. It is a Village with 12 restored buildings on a 10 acre site with more than 40,000 artifacts and is on the State and National Register of Historic Places.
Museum and Village is located just a few minutes off of Interstate 78 and is a true trip back in time. The first mill was built on this site in 1763 and the current mill was built about 1810 and is a reminder of Hunterdon County's rural, agricultural industrial history. It was built as a woolen mill but over time was used to manufacture and process everything from grains to electricity.
The museum, listed on the State and National Register of Historic Places, is spread over 10 acres, contains over 40,000 artifacts including clothing, quilts, and linens, baskets, Victorian household accessories, woodworking tools, lighting artifacts, farm equipment, and tools.
The Village also includes the 1848 M.C. Mulligan and Sons Quarry and the Bunker Hill Schoolhouse and Log Cabin from 1860.
