Bucks County Pennsylvania
Bucks County PA is located in Southeastern Pennsylvania just east of Philadelphia. It is a county of striking contrast. The southern part of the county is urban and has a vast spider web of major highways and interstates that crisscross the landscape. The northern part of the county is decidedly rural and is characterized by little towns scattered out along winding country roads.
Bucks County, Pennsylvania is one of the most beautiful places that I've ever lived. You can see this in our photo of a historic Bucks County Covered Bridge shown above. This bridge is the Frankenfield Covered Bridge located in the Norhtern part of the county near Erwinna Pennsylvania.
Bucks County is located in Eastern Pennsylvania, on the Delaware River. The landscape here consist mostly of gentle rolling hills, with the northern section being more hilly.
Bucks County is old farming country, but much of the southern part of the county has been heavily developed since the completion of Interstate 95, and the metropolitan Philadelphia area has spread into much of the southern and western part of the county.
When visiting Bucks County, there are some points of interests that you might want to consider adding to your itenerary. The major cultural institutions, attractions and activities are:
The Mercer Museum in Doylestown houses an incredible collection of 40,000 early Americana and tools of colonial trademen and crafts, housed in a gigantic 6 story castle.
Fonthill Museum in Doylestown is the gothic castle home of Henry Chapman Mercer, built in the early 1900's. It is a wonder of American Architecture and has to be one of the most excentric buildings in the entire United States.
Moravian Pottery and Tile Works is a working history museum carrying on the tradition of hand-made tiles established here over 100 years ago by Henry Mercer.
Pearl S. Buck House is the home of noted author, Pearl S. Buck. The 1835 stone home is located on 85 acres. Tours run Tuesday through Saturday.
Sesame Place is a 16 acre theme park based on Sesame Street that features shows, rides and water slides located along Interstate 95 in the southern part of the county.
Giggleberry Fair is a theme park that is part of Peddler's Village. It includes such attractions as Giggleberry Mountain, an indoor obstacle course and an antique carousel.
The Delaware River is a popular spot for kayaking, canoeing, boating, rafting and tubing, from spring to summer. Even if you do not have your own equipment, you can rent canoes or kayaks from several local companies.
