Bucks County Floods 2008

The latest warnings from the National Weather Service are calling for much less rain than was originally forecast, which should mean that most Bucks County communities along the Delaware River will not have serious flooding from this storm. Another piece of good news for those communities in Upper Bucks is that the river at Riegelsville continues to recede.

...SPECIAL RIVER STATEMENT FOR THE DELAWARE RIVER AND THE LEHIGH RIVER...
LOW PRESSURE CROSSING THE TENNESSEE VALLEY EARLY THIS MORNING WILL TRACK NORTHEAST THIS AFTERNOON AND MOVE INTO NEW YORK STATE THIS EVENING. SCATTERED LIGHT SHOWERS THIS MORNING ARE EXPECTED TO TRANSITION INTO A MORE WIDESPREAD PERSISTENT RAIN. NEW RAINFALL TOTALS THROUGH THIS EVENING ARE FORECAST TO RANGE FROM ABOUT 0.75 TO 1.50 INCHES AT MOST LOCATIONS, WITH SOME SPOTS RECEIVING SLIGHTLY HIGHER AMOUNTS. THIS NEW RAINFALL WILL BE IN ADDITION TO THE 0.50 TO 0.75 OF AN INCH OF RAIN THAT THE REGION RECEIVED YESTERDAY INTO LAST NIGHT.
BOTH THE LEHIGH RIVER AND THE DELAWARE RIVER CONTINUE TO RUN HIGH. THE GROUND IS ALSO SATURATED IN MOST PLACES. AS A RESULT, ANY RAIN THAT FALLS TODAY WILL CAUSE RIVER AND STREAM LEVELS TO FURTHER RISE, PERHAPS REACHING FLOOD LEVELS LATER TODAY ON THE SMALLER STREAMS AND BY EARLY SUNDAY ON THE LARGER STREAMS AND RIVERS. BASED ON A TOTAL RAINFALL FORECAST OF 1.25 TO 2.25 INCHES THROUGH THIS EVENING, THE LEHIGH AND DELAWARE RIVERS ARE EXPECTED TO CREST NEAR OR SLIGHTLY ABOVE FLOOD STAGE AT A NUMBER OF LOCATIONS. A FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR THE ENTIRE REGION.
SOME SPECIFIC CREST FORECASTS FOLLOW.
FOR THE DELAWARE RIVER NEAR TOCKS ISLAND, THE STAGE WAS 13.5 FEET AT 215 AM SATURDAY. A CREST BETWEEN 19 AND 21 FEET IS FORECAST FOR SUNDAY. FLOOD STAGE AT TOCKS ISLAND IS 21 FEET.

FOR THE DELAWARE RIVER AT WASHINGTON CROSSING, A CREST OF 12 TO 14 FEET IS FORECAST FOR SUNDAY EVENING. FLOOD STAGE AT WASHINGTON CROSSING IS 20 FEET.
FOR THE DELAWARE RIVER AT TRENTON, THE STAGE WAS 15.6 FEET AT 215 AM SATURDAY. A CREST BETWEEN 18 AND 20 FEET IS FORECAST FOR SUNDAY EVENING. FLOOD STAGE AT TRENTON IS 20 FEET.
FOR THE LEHIGH RIVER AT WALNUTPORT, THE STAGE WAS 5.0 FEET AT 130 AM SATURDAY. A CREST BETWEEN 6 AND 8 FEET IS FORECAST FOR TONIGHT. FLOOD STAGE AT WALNUTPORT IS 8 FEET.
FOR THE LEHIGH RIVER AT BETHLEHEM, THE STAGE WAS 5.8 FEET AT 130 AM SATURDAY. A CREST BETWEEN 8.5 AND 10 FEET IS FORECAST FOR TONIGHT. FLOOD STAGE AT BETHLEHEM IS 16 FEET.
THESE FORECASTS ASSUME A CONTINUATION OF PRESENT RESERVOIR RELEASES.
