The Adams Mark Hotel, now a Marriot, was a landmark in downtown Mobile. Built in 1983, it was one of the largest and tallest hotels in the city with 28 floors, over 350 rooms and over 30,000 square feet of meeting space.
The hotel was centrally located near the Arthur R. Outlaw Convention Center, Bankhead Tunnel, Interstate 10, US Highway 98, The George C. Wallace Tunnel, Mobile Bay and the Mobile River.
The Adam's Mark was the location of hundreds of seminars and conferences over the decades. Some of those meetings were: The Trenchless Technology Seminar, The Gulf Coast Human Resource Conference, The 54th Annual Meeting of The International Doctors in Alcoholics Anonymous, The SECAC [Southeastern College Art Conference] Board of Directors Meeting, The AAMA [Alabama Automotive Manufacturers Association] Quarterly Meeting, American Society of Critical Care Anesthesiologists Lectures, The 33rd Annual Marine Benthic Ecology Meeting, The ALHELA [Alabama Health Libraries Association] Meeting, The 2003 USS Fred T. Berry Reunion, and more.
The hotel was also the setting for many wedding receptions, honeymoons and romantic getaway weekends.
The hotel has recently undergone a multi-million dollar renovation and turned into a Marriot Hotel called the Renaissance Riverview Plaza Hotel. With a new name and a new owner, the hotel is going strong. The Plaza offers a fitness center, fifty percent more meeting space than before, a coffee shop, a seafood restaurant, a tapas restaurant and a lounge. Special services include concierge service, valet parking, room service, safety deposit boxes, cable TV, internet access, and more.
